Mission

The Department presently seeks to train students for B.Sc. Degree in Geology. The Department also offers the M.Sc. Degree and PhD Degree in Applied Geology. These programmes have been carefully designed to prepare the graduates for a broad choice of careers in industry, government, teaching further postgraduate work and research. They can even be able to set up private consultancies. Accordingly, students are expected to have gained sufficient expertise in the disciplines chosen. The programmes are designed to enable students develop skills in mineral exploration, petroleum geology, environmental geology, hydrogeology and applied aspects of geophysics. Through their interactions with their Departmental Associations the students are encouraged to get involved with other relevant and similar associations through which their leadership qualities are enhanced as they study in very friendly atmosphere with their peer under the supervision of the Lecturers.

Admission Requirements

BSc Programmes

Candidates with General Certificate of Examinations (GCE) Background

GCE Advanced Level

  • Pass in GCE Advanced Level (minimum of 2 Science subjects)
  • Must have subjects: None
  • Subjects not considered: Religious Studies

GCE Ordinary Level

  • Pass in GCE Ordinary Level (minimum of 4 subjects)
  • Must have subjects: Mathematics
  • Subjects not considered: None

 

Candidates with BAC Background

  • Appropriate BAC
  • Appropriate Probatoire

MSc Programmes

MSc in Applied Geology

Candidates must hold at least a Second Class (honours) Lower Division or Mention “Assez Bien” degree of equivalent in the required field of studies from a recognized university.

PhD Programmes

PhD in Applied Geology

Candidates must hold a good Masters Degree in the relevant Discipline
