Mission

The Department of Chemistry seeks to train students to acquire the basic knowledge and skills in chemistry. The training of students aims at enabling the graduates find gainful employment in all areas where chemical knowledge is of essence, be it in secondary education, medical or agricultural fields, industry or entry into graduate schools. At the level of postgraduate training (MSc and PhD), the Department seeks to address higher level man-power needs in research institutes, institutions of higher education and industry. In all cases, graduates are encouraged to take on leadership roles wherever they find themselves.
