PCH464: Internship and Seminar in Pharmaceutical Chemistry | 6 credits (40-10-10) |
Objectives
To introduce the student to the scientific literature and scientific writing, and to the practice of pharmacy and/or pharmaceutical chemistry.
Contents
Students in their senior year will be expected to choose a topic in any area of medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry, review the topic thoroughly, write a 20-25 page term paper and present the material in a 40-minute seminar to the entire teaching staff and student body of the department. Students will be graded on the quality of the written paper and the oral presentation. In the second part, students will be required to do a 2-month internship at a reputable pharmacy, pharmaceutical company; research laboratory or duly recognized traditional medicine clinic that makes herbal preparations. During the period of the internship, the student must devote at least eight hours a day to this establishment. At the end of the internship, students will be required to obtain a testimonial from the head of the establishment. In addition, the student must write a detailed report, signed by the establishment, of activities undertaken during the period of the internship.
