To acquaint students with analytical methods and statistical methods of data reduction and the capability and limitations of instruments used for different analytical techniques.

Statistical treatment of analytical data; Classification of analytical methods, types of instruments, analytical instruments, calibration, selection of an analytical method, steps in chemical analysis; signal-to-noise ratio; atomic x-ray spectrometry; optical atomic spectroscopy; atomic absorption and atomic fluorescence spectrometry; atomic emission spectroscopy; atomic mass spectroscopy; molecular spectroscopy; Introduction and applications of uv/visible molecular absorption spectrometry, molecular luminescence spectroscopy, infrared spectrometry and applications; Raman spectroscopy; molecular mass spectroscopy; radiochemical methods; thermal analysis; electron spectroscopy.
