To assess the student’s readiness for admission into candidacy for the Ph.D.(The exam is taken after completion of the coursework.)
Contents
To attain candidacy, a doctoral student is required to show depth of understanding of the current issues in Chemistry and related disciplines commensurate with this level of academic standing. In order to continuously monitor the level of the student, the department requires that the student passes four cumulative examinations: two in the area of specialization and two outside the area of specialization. The examinations are offered four times a year and they must be passed within a two-year period following the completion of course work.
