GLY705: Groundwater Geology, Management and Geochemistry | 6 credits (40-5-15) |
Objectives
This course aims at examining the quality of groundwater and water resources management schemes in a rapidly urbanising and growing world.
Contents
Selected special aspects of groundwater study, analysis and evaluation. These aspects to include: groundwater geology and chemistry, groundwater and geotechnical problems, groundwater contamination, groundwater resource evaluation, radioactive nuclides in groundwater and its aquifer. Concepts of groundwater basin management; equation of hydrologic equilibrium, groundwater basin investigations, data collection and field work, basin yields, perennial yield, basin management by conjunctive use and examples of groundwater management. Freshwater/salt water interphase. The role of redox potential and pH in sediments and aquifers.
