Objectives
To train students in various aspects of facies determination and the use of sequence stratigraphy as a modern tool in basin analysis.
Contents
History, terminology and development of sequence stratigraphy. High stand and low stand. Sequence boundaries. Case studies. The subsurface diagnosis of sedimentary environments from cores, ditch cuttings and logs and the use of this knowledge in the prediction of the distribution, geometry and orientation of reservoir rocks. The techniques of subsurface mapping.
