Admission Requirements

Candidates for the M.Sc. degree in Applied Geology must possess at least a second class B.Sc. degree in Geology, Earth Science or in any closely related field as the admission board may determine. Candidates with deficiencies may be required to register for and pass prescribed undergraduate courses within the first year of residence.

Objectives

The Department of Geology and Environmental Science offers postgraduate studies and research leading to the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Geology. The programme is aimed at training high level manpower for the fast growing opportunities in industries, government and academics. The M.Sc. courses are designed to equip the students with skills enabling them to function in an interdisciplinary role upon graduation.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for the award of the M.Sc. degree in Applied Geology, the candidate must have satisfied the usual requirements set out by the University of Buea and the Department of Geology and Environmental Science. These include:

  • The satisfactory completion of a minimum of78 credits of course work. These should include the {slider=,char(34),"Compulsory Courses",char(34)," class=",char(34),"icon",char(34)," open=",char(34),"false",CHAR(34),"}"," and other electives taken by the candidate to enhance his/her knowledge in his/her field of specialisation. Note that there are no electives for the M.Sc. programme at present.
  • The submission of copies of an acceptable thesis. The thesis has a credit value of 42.
