GLY604: Advanced Structural Geology 6 credits (10-30-12)

Objectives

The course is aimed at training students in the techniques of modern structural geology and how this relates to aspects of mineral and petroleum exploration. Aspects of structural geology in slope stability are also examined.

Contents

The development of folds, faults and lineations in orogenic and non-orogenic regions. Diapirism, fracture formation and distribution. Strain – stress analysis. The application of structural geology to exploration, aerial photography and landsat imagery. Structural Geology and slope stability. Neotectonics.
