Mission Statement

The Faculty of Science at the University of Buea is concerned with the pursuit of scientific truth through research and teaching. It provides its students with the tools for rationale and objective analysis of facts and the methodology and the technical know-how by which such facts are established. At the end of their training, the graduates are expected to have gained specialised knowledge and expertise in a well-defined domain of modern science in the context of human and environmental development. Through its community and mode of operation, it strives to inculcate in the students the virtues of hard work, honesty, fairness, dignity, civic responsibility, consideration for neighbours and commonwealth.

Programmes, Staff and Student Strength

Teaching in the Faculty takes place in ten (10) Departments. We offer a total of 49 degree programmes comprising 20 Bachelors, 19 Masters and 11 Doctorate (PhD) degrees. The academic staff strength of 134 comprises 10 Professors, 31 Associate Professors, 45 Lecturers, 48 Assistant Lecturers and some Senior Instructors and Part-time Teachers. Our Support Staff strength is 44, made up of administrative assistants, financial staff, laboratory technicians, secretaries, cleaners and drivers.
