Objectives

To give an overview of the concept of agriculture with its various disciplines.

Contents

The course covers the origin of agriculture and its importance to man; Organisation of agriculture in Cameroon; Agriculture and the natural environment; Land use and tenure systems; An overview of the trends in production, harvesting, processing, conservation, distribution and utilisation of agricultural produce; Basic concepts on physical, chemical and biological properties of soils; Soil classification, fertility, and fertility conservation and Cropping systems; Survey of major crop plants of horticultural importance; Crop valuation, identification of forest species, ecology and adaptation; Nursery and planting techniques.
