Objectives
To provide the formalism and techniques of statistical physics which are very important in Physics.
Contents
Introduction: include basic principles of statistical mechanics and non-mechanics applicable to physical, chemical and biological systems, Basic principles, phase space, statistical ensemble, density matrix, Liouville’s theorem, quantum states and phase space; Canonical ensemble: Entropy and various extensions, probability distribution, Nernt’s heat theorem, canonical partition function, equipartition theorem, thermodynamic functions for canonical ensemble-classical systems, quantum systems, fluctuations , Number of particles, volume and energy, Grand canonical ensemble , Grand canonical distribution , classical and quantum systems, Some applications in more physical, chemical and biological systems, and other collective phenomena.
