ENV411: Population and the Environment 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To examine the reciprocal relationships that exist between the physical environment and mankind. It examines atmospheric processes and the response humankind has made to differing climates.

Contents

The human use of the physical and biological resource base; Human population trends and environmental consequences; Degradation and conservation of the biosphere: economics and political considerations; Natural and man adapted ecosystems with particular reference to tropic structure, energy flow and mineral cycling; Environmental adaptations of animals; ecological factors and major terrestrial ecosystems with emphasis on Cameroon; Plants, animals and microbes – their structure, function, nutrition and water relationships; their communities and relationships with each other and their environment.
