Objectives

In this course, the student is introduced to computer technology and typical development and deployment of computer technology in an increasingly networked world.

Contents

Detailed treatment of computer hardware and software: categories, examples, and uses.

Systems concepts: What is a system, attributes of a system, examples of systems (natural and man-made). Info systems: what they are, kinds of information systems. Data and Information.

Categories of people (knowledge workers) involved: naive users, developers, systems administrators, systems analysts, top management, middle management, etc. Types of info systems (software): generic, custom, info systems to satisfy need of different categories of people involved

Info system development (from conception to deployment): cycle, documentation, project management. Education-based systems (content management systems, e-learning technologies)

Use of office automation systems (in presentation of students' work): word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, use of graphics software.
