Objectives

To provide an introduction to the key areas and methods in the global and national epidemiology of non-communicable diseases, as well as the determinants and risk factors and their importance in control strategies.

Introduction to the global epidemiology of non-communicable diseases; Upstream determinants of non-communicable diseases; Life-course approach to non-communicable diseases; Socio-economic inequalities in health; Molecular epidemiology with use of bio-markers; Mendelian randomization: using genetic variation to understand environmental causes of diseases; Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes and the role of biomolecules nutritional habits; Epidemiology of cancer and the role of mutagens, relationship to genetic aberrations; Epidemiology of chronic respiratory diseases (e.g. asthma); Emerging trends.
