Admission Requirements
For admission into the Ph.D. degree programme, candidates must possess a good M.Sc. degree or equivalent with at least a B average (cumulative GPA ≥3 on a scale of4) in Zoology or related fields.
Objectives
- To develop in the candidate an advanced level of knowledge and understanding in his/her field of study through lectures and critical review of literature.
- To orientate the candidate so that he/she is capable of pursuing original research in his/her field of study, and relating particular research projects to the general body of knowledge in the field.
- To direct the student to produce a thesis, which must be original work, making a significant contribution to knowledge in or understanding of the field of study and containing material worthy of publication?
Graduation Requirements
The candidate for the award of a Ph.D. in Zoology must have demonstrated by performance in seminars and written examinations in the first year and, subsequently by the presentation of a thesis and performance at an oral examination that he/she is capable of pursuing original research in his/her field of study and presenting the rows of his/her research in a critical and scholarly way. The thesis must be original work making a significant contribution to knowledge in or understanding of the field of study and containing material worthy of publication. The thesis must contain material which presents a unified body of work such as could reasonably be achieved on the basis of a minimum of three years of postgraduate study and research, be satisfactory in literary presentation, give full and adequate references and have a coherent structure and understandable to a scholar in the same general field with regard to intentions, background and conclusions. The candidate must have published at least one paper by the time of thesis defence.
Skills Acquired
The student acquires an advanced level of knowledge and understanding in his/her field of study, and is able to pursue original research making a significant contribution to knowledge (worthy of publication) in the field of study.

The Ph.D. graduate in Zoology is suited for a wide variety of jobs in universities, industries (food, textile, biotechnology, etc), medicine (medical and veterinary), agriculture, livestock and fisheries sector, environment, pure and applied research, or for consultancy jobs.
