Admission Requirements

For admission into the M.Sc. degree programme, candidates must be holders of a first degree in Zoology or other biological discipline with at least a second class honours lower division or an equivalent degree from an approved university. Candidates who do not hold a first degree in Zoology or Biology (such as candidates from veterinary medicine, etc) may be required to take as compulsory one or two undergraduate courses in Zoology should they be found deficient in knowledge of these courses.

The candidate for the award of an M.Sc. degree in Animal Physiology, must have demonstrated by written examinations and by presentation of a thesis that he/she has acquired an advanced level of knowledge in his/her field of study. The thesis must be original work comprising a satisfactory record of research undertaken by the candidate. It must be satisfactory in literary presentation and include adequate references. Each candidate must satisfy the examiners in respect of the examinations and of the thesis. The candidate must have earned a total of 120 credits (60 credits of course work,42 credits of thesis work,6 credits of Research Methodology and Scientific Writing skills ,6 credits of a pre-defence seminar and6 credits of Entrepreneurship) to qualify for the award of the degree.

Skills Acquired

Student acquires an in-depth knowledge of concepts in Animal Physiology and develops a spirit of enquiry through training in research, and is thus able to apply fundamental ideas to new problems. He/she is able to apply the knowledge of Physiology to disciplines such as fisheries, livestock, human and veterinary medicine; biotechnology, environment, food, physical exercise, etc.

Employment Opportunities

The M.Sc. graduate in Animal Physiology is suited for immediate employment or may proceed for a higher degree. An M.Sc. degree in Animal Physiology, can lead to a wide variety of jobs in schools and universities, industries, medicine (medical and veterinary), livestock and fisheries, environment, pure and applied research.
