ZOO619: Electrophysiology & Comparative MusclesPHYsiology 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To study the electrical phenomena at the cellular level, at rest and in activity, and understand their link with ionic concentrations. To compare the physiology of the main types of muscles.

Contents

Ultrastructure of cell membrane; resting membrane potential; action potential; electrical and chemical synapses; transmission of impulses (excitation-contraction coupling) at the neuromuscular junction; electrophysiology of cardiac myocyte, electrophysiology of skeletal myocyte, electrophysiology of gastrointestinal myocyte, muscular response to stimuli; similarities and differences in the mechanism of reaction of muscular cells (contribution of extracellular and intracellular calcium, involvement of ATP, sliding of contractile proteins, etc).
