Admission Requirements

Admission is open to University graduates with at least a second class degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Botany or related disciplines. Candidates with deficiencies might be required to register for and pass prescribed undergraduate courses within the first year of residence.

Objectives

Environmental issues permeate all human decisions and activities, and give rise to diversity of pathways which facilitate environmental health and social renewal. The MSc Degree programme in Natural Resource and Environmental Management is designed to reflect the increasing worldwide concern about the state of the environment. Its specific objectives are:

  • to provide theoretical and practical training for observation and experimentation in the field and/or laboratory
  • To train students in analytical and investigative procedures in basic research and environmental management
  • To train highly skilled environmental and natural resource managers and professionals capable of applying their knowledge to solving pressing environmental problems peculiar to Cameroon and the sub-region

The programme provides insight into the causes of environmental changes and degradation, the nature and the consequences of pollution and deterioration of the natural environment (air, water and soil), and their effects on human beings and other organisms. It also aims at generating possible technological and policy solutions to environmental problems in an interdisciplinary way. Attention is paid to the application of environmental concepts in basic and applied science and in service industries. Throughout the programme, emphasis is laid on fundamental principles including environmental degradation, conservation and resource management.

Graduation Requirements

To obtain the M.Sc. degree in Natural Resource and Environmental Management, the candidate must pass at least 96 credits of course work based on the {slider=,char(34),"Compulsory Courses",char(34)," class=",char(34),"icon",char(34)," open=",char(34),"false",CHAR(34),"}"," outlined below. Candidates may earn additional credits selected from the list of electives provided but this is not mandatory. The candidate must also conduct a research project, submit, and defend a thesis on the rows of the project. The thesis has a credit value of24. The student shall also be expected to satisfy any other requirements of postgraduate studies that Senate may prescribe.
