Objectives

To examine the position of groundwater in the natural water cycle, the nature of aquifers and the sources of pollution or contamination as well as the methods of groundwater protection.

Water as a major vehicle or medium for the transport of pollutants; The water cycle, groundwater in aquifers etc.; Characteristics of aquifers; the groundwater system and its interaction with soil; vegetation and the atmosphere; Water flow and solute transport in the unsaturated zone; Sources of ground water pollution in developing countries; Groundwater pollution in industrialised countries; Quantitative water management and its implications; Water catchment management and protection; Water quality evaluation; physical, chemical and biological processes in surface and groundwater and their evaluation.
