Objectives
To introduce various options available in waste management and land treatment practices as well as waste characteristics and loading rates related to soil management.
Contents
Characterisation of wastes; Sound practices in solid waste management; Pollution by solid wastes, Minimisation and amelioration of solid waste pollution; Case study of a known city/town. The soil and soil characteristics (physical, chemical and biological); Soil water; Soil as a waste utilization system; The ecological value of the soil; Remediation techniques for polluted soils; and Case studies of soil pollution. An appreciation of the soil as a waste utilization system will be done to show the rationale and scope of waste utilization on cultivated land and soil management of solid and liquid wastes.
