Objectives

To understand the notions of samples, populations, frequency distribution, hypothesis testing; analysis of variance and covariance; correlation; regression; factorial experiments and research methodology.

Contents

Populations and samples; frequency distributions; graphing and tabulation of data; Measurement of central tendency; variability and association; probability and significance; Normal, Poisson and binomial distributions; Mean; variance and standard error. Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals; basic concepts of experimental design and treatment designs in research; The t-test,; z-test and F-test; contingency tables and χ2-tests for goodness-of-fit; Analysis of variance for simple and complex experiments; analysis of covariance; regression and correlation; factorial experiments; random numbers and sampling. Design; sample surveys; analysis of quantitative data and some non-parametric methods.
