Objectives

To study the mechanisms of pheromone production and uses and mechanism of immune gene regulation and immune mechanisms in insect disease vectors.

Chemoreception and integration; control of pheromone production; sensory processing of pheromone signals; neuroethology of pheromone – mediated responses; use of pheromone in direct control; evolution of pheromone communication; basic methods of isolating, cloning and characterising nucleic acids and products; genome mapping techniques; insect identification techniques; transformation techniques and viral systems; cell and organ culture, function and regulation of insect hemolins; insect immune gene regulation; antibacterial defenses of the insect alimentary canal; mode of action of insect antibacterial and antimicrobial polypeptides and peptides; Immune mechanisms in vectors of transmissible diseases.
