PHY208: Electricity and Magnetism I 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To give an exposition of the laws of electromagnetism and their applications to relatively simple situations.

Contents

Coulombs, Gauss, Biot- Savart’s, Amperes and Faraday’s laws –applications to symmetric situations calling for vector algebra rather than vector calculus, Lorentz force equation, Electrical and magnetic energy, Conservation of Energy, Circuit elements - capacitance, inductance circuits - DC and -use of phasors and complex numbers.
