Objectives

The course aims at presenting to students the important components for reducing the burden of filariasis (Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Loiasis) morbidity and mortality.

Onchocerciasis: Geographical distribution and Epidemiological Patterns; Diagnosis and treatment; Vector control approaches to Onchocerciasis; Control through Ivermectin administration (CDTI and APOC); Ivermectin sup-optimal responses and implications; Co-endemicity onchocerciasis and Loiasis and implications for the onchocerciasis control; Disease surveillance in ex OCP areas; Cost of the diseases and cost of the programmes; Futures challenges (From control to elimination); Managerial Challenges.
