Objectives

To study the chemical, physical and mechanical principles applied to modification and processing of this class of materials and explore usage trends.

Contents

The rubber and plastic industry trends, raw materials, natural and synthetic polymers, elastomers, thermosets and fibres, addition and condensation polymerisation; Structure and property relationships for polymers; Solvent/polymer interactions, paste technology, handling of latex; Additives for polymers, processing of polymers, extrusion, calendering, injection and injection blow moulding, vacuum forming, reaction injection moulding (RIM), Compression moulding; Natural rubber processing and applications, some cellulosic fibres, wood and wood based products.
