Objectives

To provide knowledge on microscopy, cultural, molecular and immunological techniques employed in the study of microorganisms as well as providing skills in scientific writing.

Contents

Microscopy, dyes and staining techniques; culture media, their preparation, and sterilization, pure culture techniques; enumeration of microorganisms in food and environment; identification of bacteria; fungi maintenance and preservation of cultures; Spectrophotometry and chromatography; immunological and nucleic acid-based methods of identification of microorganisms; Virology techniques – tissue culture, egg inoculation, serological techniques, animal care and use.
