Objectives

To provide knowledge on taxonomy of microorganisms, microbial morphology, physiology genetics, immunology and applied microbiology.

Contents

The structure, classification and distribution of micro-organisms in nature (viruses, bacteria, fungi and algae); principles of culture, staining, microscopy, sterilization of media and equipment; the cultural, morphological, biochemical characteristics and identification scheme for bacteria, fungi and viruses; microbial variation and heredity; principles of pathogenicity and defence mechanisms (immunity); basic uses of microorganisms in home and industry.
