Objectives

To introduce nonconforming finite elements and error estimates. Special attention will be given to adaptive techniques based on a priori and a posteriori error estimations.

Nonconforming finite elements and the Strang lemmas; The h-, p- and the hp-finite element methods; Depending on the particular needs of the students, other methods, such as Boundary elements, Finite volumes, Spectral methods, Moving finite elements, and Wavelets may be treated.
