Objectives

To explore the Mathematical applications of Newtonian Mechanics with a view to enhancing the student’s understanding and application of mathematical notions, such as differentiability and vector analysis.

Newton's laws of motion; motion of a single particle; work, energy, power, momentum; Central forces; Moments and couples; Equilibrium of a particle and rigid body under the action of coplanar forces; Dynamics of a system of particles; Coplanar motion; Emphasis will be laid on the mathematical applications.
