GLY711: Formation Evaluation, Applied Organic Geochemistry and PetrograPHYof 6 credits (40-5-15)

Objectives

This course aims at examining the methods of borehole logging, porosity and permeability measurements and aspects of organic geochemistry in petroleum exploration.

Contents

Methods of borehole logging, the use of logs to deduce lithology, porosity and formation fluids. Case studies especially from Cameroon. Source rock evaluation by organic geochemistry techniques (vitrinite reflectance, kerogen type, hydrogen index, organic chromatography). Case studies. The morphology and genesis of porosity and permeability and their relationships to rock composition, texture and diagenesis. The description, identification and analysis of reservoir rocks from core and ditch cuttings. Laboratory studies.
