GLY710: Petrology, Geochronology and Fluid Inclusion Studies 6 credits (40-5-15)

Objectives

This course is designed to employ various case studies to demonstrate current knowledge and practice in petrology, geochronology and fluid inclusion studies.

Contents

The application of radioactive and stable isotope analyses to problems in igneous and metamorphic petrology and ore genesis. The utilisation of isotopic tracers to evaluate petrogenetic models. Pb, Sr, Nd and O2 isotopes as indicators of source terrain and subsequent evolution paths. Ore microscopy in the reconstruction of T-P conditions of ore deposition and host rock formation. Phase equilibria and the study of fluid inclusion data. Case studies.
