Objectives

The course aims at training students in modern techniques of mineral exploration as well as small-scale exploitation of ores and industrial minerals.

Contents

Mining methods and techniques, mine mapping and evaluation, grid mapping, channel sampling, pitting and grab sampling in exploration. Principles of common mineral extraction methods. Mining laws, taxation and investment. Geochemical exploration. Metallogeny and plate tectonics. Ores in sediments; magmatic ores. Industrial minerals: exploration; exploitation and use. Small-scale mining: current trends and future prospects. Case studies of exploration using geophysics.
