Objectives

To train students on the theory and use of various advanced techniques in analyzing samples commonly used in geology.

Contents

X-ray analysis in geology; generation and use of x-rays in geological research: powder diffraction and XRF spectrometry. Visible ultraviolet spectrophotometry, infrared spectrophotometry, AAS, ICP. Chromatographic techniques. Titration and other chemical techniques for groundwater and petroleum source rock evaluation.
