Objectives

To train students on the origin of petroleum, its generation, migration and entrapment in reservoir rocks as well as methods of exploration and production with examples from various parts of the world.

Petroleum source rocks. Maturation and generation of petroleum. Migration and entrapment in various types of reservoirs. Methods of exploration and production. Basin analysis, estimation of reserves and risk analysis with examples from various petroleum provinces and major oilfields of the world.
