Objectives

To study the geology of Cameroon within a regional context (structural evolution, rock groups, mineral resources, geological history) and the basic principles of soil formation and distribution in Cameroon.

Contents

A survey of world geology. Structural development and major tectonic elements of African geology. The Pre-Cambrian of Cameroon in the context of African geology. Development of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary basins in Cameroon and their stratigraphy. Volcanicity and formation of plutons and eruptive rocks. Quarternary geology of West Africa with particular emphasis on Cameroon. General processes of rock weathering. Climatic influence on weathering. The clay minerals. Evolution of relief with climate. Aspects of weathering of different rock types. Distribution of different soil types in Cameroon and their economic potentials.
