Objectives

The course examines the rock-forming minerals, physical properties of minerals, optical mineralogy, the concept of crystallography and association of minerals in rocks.

Contents

The nature and occurrence of minerals. Mineral genesis and rock formation. Optical mineralogy. X-ray diffraction. The atomic structure of minerals. Concepts of crystallography, crystal chemistry. Stereographic projections. Systematic studies of associations of minerals in igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
