Objectives

To study the impact of human activities on the environment and the legal framework in which environmental degradation could be minimised.

Contents

The urban and rural environments and how these are constantly being degraded by man; The impact of such degradation, laws and other approaches aimed at monitoring and protecting them; approaches used in assessing these degradational activities; The role of local authorities and the government; the repercussions of major degradational events such as toxic waste disposals from industries; Projections are made into the future environment in the absence of the auditing of the present environment; The legal context of environmental assessments; circumstances requiring EIA; principles of evaluation and information requirements; available computer techniques; Case studies include environmental impact of urban areas; urban development strategies and today’s trends and structure; spatial and temporal considerations; Preparation of an EIA report.
