Objectives

To familiarise students with recent developments and new discoveries concerned with the representation, matching, synthesis and visualisation of biometric information.

Contents

Introduction, definition and historical perspectives of biometrics, biometric characteristics and biometric systems; Algorithmic foundations of biometrics, advanced geometric data structures, Veronoi diagrams; Fingerprint and hand recognition; Face identification and tracking, 3D models: visualisation, reconstruction and simplification; Iris synthesis and modelling, signature synthesis and modelling, other biometrics (ear, voice, gait); Multi-modal biometrics, biometric verification; ethics, privacy and security issues.
