Objectives

To present Geographic Information Systems (GIS), their characteristics and use as a decision-support system, and their practical application in the context of Cameroon.

Contents

General presentation of Geographic information systems (GIS); Geographic information: characteristics (e.g., multi-source, multi-dimension, variables, volume); vector models; raster models; Decision-support aspects of GIS’s; Learn to use a specific GIS (MapInfo): general presentation; data capture, data analyses; import/export of data etc. Programming of a GIS: use of MapBasic; Example uses of a GIS in the context of Cameroon (e.g., water ways/canals, electrical circuits, signal panels).
