Objectives

To teach the basic concepts of transfer processes: fluid flow, mass and heat.

Contents

Introduction to fluid mechanics; basic concepts of fluid flow; nature and properties of fluid; Newton’s Law of viscosity; Laminar flow and pipe flow analysis; particle and fluid separations; flow in packed columns; filtration; Heat transfer processes: conduction; convection; radiation; combined mechanisms; Mass transfer operations: diffusion (definitions and relations); Fick’s Law: diffusion coefficients; convective mass transfer; inter-phase mass transfer; over-all mass transfer coefficients.
