CHM798: Doctoral Thesis in Chemistry 98 credits

Objectives

To assess the ability of the candidate to carry out high-level scientific investigation leading to an original contribution to the discipline.

Contents

There are no formal lectures for this course. However, the student will have at least 3 hours per week of discussion with the supervisor. The student will be given assigned readings and carry out research in the laboratory and finally write a thesis. A maximum of 30 credit hours can be earned per semester for the course.

The final oral examination shall be based primarily upon the student's research, the field of his/her research and related areas of study. The examination committee shall consist of a minimum of five examiners and one of whom must be from outside the University. The examiners shall be selected by the supervisor upon recommendation of the Department of Chemistry. The unanimous passing of this oral and the unanimous acceptance of the dissertation by the examination panel fulfills all the requirements for the PhD degree in Chemistry.
