CHM763: Advanced Concepts in Pharmacochemistry 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To provide an exhaustive treatment of the fundamental concepts of drug design, with special emphasis on mechanistic aspects of early strategies and contemporary approaches.

Contents

Molecular determinants of drug-target interactions; fundamental concepts in drug design including but not restricted to structure-activity relationships; receptor site theory; bioisosterism; enzyme kinetics and strategies of enzyme inhibition; anti-metabolite theory; receptor mapping and conformational restriction approaches; the pharmacophore concepts; molecular structure and drug disposition; pro-drug strategies, pharmacologic screening; lead identification and optimization strategies.
