CHM698: M.Sc. Thesis in Chemistry 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To provide the student with the opportunity to carry out a scientific investigation on a selected topic. The investigation which entails laboratory experimentation is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to acquire skills as an experimentalist, learn new methods of experimental research, and to mature as a scientist.

Contents

There are no formal lectures for this course; however, the student will have at least 3 hours per week of discussion with the supervisor. The rest of the time, the student will carry out experiments in the laboratory, analyze the results of these experiments and review the literature for material that is relevant to the project. Upon completion of the project, the student shall prepare a complete report of the work undertaken, titled a thesis, and present the latter to the department. To complete the course, the thesis must be defended orally in public before a jury designated by the competent authorities of the university.
