CHM621: Synthetic Methods in Inorganic Chemistry 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To undertake a survey of the common techniques in inorganic synthetic methods, instrumental methods of analysis, metal-assisted reaction processes, ligand synthesis, organometallic compounds, synthesis and uses of zeolites, inorganic polymers as well as the preparation of co-ordination compounds.

Synthetic methods: classical methods, electrochemical methods; ligand synthesis; synthesis of non-metallic compounds; organometallic compounds; coordination compounds; Inorganic frame-work structures: zeolites and silicates;Reaction mechanisms: elucidation of reaction mechanisms; substitution reactions involving metal complexes; redox reactions involving metal ions; metal ion-assisted processes; some reactions of the p-block elements; oscillating reactions.
