Objectives

To teach the principles governing how and why organic chemical reactions take place, the study of the established organic synthetic methods as well as the applications of molecular orbital theory to structure and reactivity.

Molecular orbitals ; energy correlation diagrams ; electronic transitions; electron configuration and molecular orbitals ; orbitals for bond formation ; symmetry « allowed » and symmetry « forbidden » reactions ; Frontier molecular orbitals; Pericyclic reactions : thermal and photochemical reactions; Carbanions: Aldol and Claisen Condensations; Malonic ester synthesis; acetoacetic synthesis; selected "Name" reactions; Oxidation reactions; catalytic hydrogenation, reactions of dissolving metals.
