CHM431: Chemical Kinetics 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

To explore the processes responsible for chemical changes: molecular collisions, elementary reactions, surface phenomena, catalysis, absorption isotherms, theory of the activated complex and diffusion controlled reactions.

Contents

Kinetic theory of gases: collisions, reaction rate laws; elementary reactions, unimolecular reactions, chain reactions, complex reactions; Polymerization and catalysis; Surface phenomena and heterogeneous catalysis ; surface catalysis, catalysis by enzymes. Langmuir adsorption isotherms; mechanisms of surface reactions; The activated complex. Diffusion controlled reactions.
