Objectives

To equip students with techniques of measuring growth, the hormonal basis of plant growth and development as well as commercial applications of plant growth substances.

Contents

Hormone biosynthesis, physiological and chemical effects of hormones and plant growth substances; agricultural uses of plant growth regulators including auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, ethylene, abscisic acid, growth retardants, and selected herbicide groups; penetration in relation to mode of application; metabolism and fate; crop production benefits; Techniques in growth and yield analysis; plant characters and their roles in growth development and economic crop yield; assimilate partitioning; Importance of yield analysis in general crop improvement.
