Objectives

To introduce the biology and chemistry of plant hormones and their role in growth and development.

Contents

The discovery, chemistry, biosynthesis, extraction, bioassays, interaction, mode of action, transport and economic importance of plant hormones; Morphogenesis, juvenility, maturation and plant senescence; Growth movements; Flowering processes and phytochrome involvement; fruit ripening; development of bulbs and tubers; Growth kinetics; abnormal growth; photoperiodism; vernalisation; dormancy; seed germination; Basic principles, techniques and applications of tissue culture.
