BOT404: Plant Pathology 6 credits (40-10-10)

Objectives

The course aims at articulating the role and interactions of microorganisms and other parasitic plants as well as adverse environmental factors in the physiological malfunctioning of plants and acquainting the students with various ways and techniques of managing plant disease.

Contents

Major groups of plant pathogenic fungi; identification and biology of plant pathogenic bacteria; viruses as plant pathogens; plant parasitic nematodes; parasitic higher plants; pathogen transmission, penetration and invasion; physiology of diseased plants; disease in plant populations; market pathology; plant defense mechanisms; non-infectious diseases; principles of plant disease control; case studies.
